Who is the Enemy?
1. The flesh–ourselves…
James 1:13-15…Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Not the devil, us! The devil didn’t make me do it.
Romans 7:5…For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
Matthew 26:41…Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
1 John 3:7-8…Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Read Romans 8 and Mark 14:38.
Case History: I was once asked to help with a deliverance session for a young man who was constantly sick and in trouble. His family, very devout Spirit-filled Christians and their cell group were convinced he was demon “oppressed” but were not certain what spirits were attached to him. As I began to pray, I realized his problem wasn’t evil spirits, rather he was unsaved!
2. The flesh–our ancestors
Exodus 34:6-7…And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation… Read Exodus 20:5; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9.
Generational curses . . . We will be teaching on generational curses in another post. For now please understand they are real. If you cannot seem to free yourself from demonization, perhaps it stems from your ancestors.
